Yours truly also donated some of my books, fiction books, novels, magazines, textbooks, researches, and board games with high hopes that they can be beneficial to all the students. I am also thankful to Ms. Nica Mandigma and Ms. Margie Tan because they went to the school to cover my project for a website fund sourcing article at I was very elated to see Ms. Nica’s article and Ms. Margie’s photos of me on the website.

Two computers were also donated by Development Academy of the Philippines as solicited by Sir Paul. Sir Jerson Jolo, one of the new teachers in SHS in June 2017, also became instrumental in the book donations of his former student, Lynard Adrian L. Rivera. He was also able to solicit a set of volleyball (net plus ball). Our gratitude also to the General PTA last school year. The fund collected for the GPTA Project was used to have the wall between the classroom and the Learning Resource Center.

This is how the LRC looks like right now. Big thanks to the creativity of Ms. Racquel De Torres, our volunteer LRC staff. By the way, the flat-screen TV was fixed on my classroom because the Audio-Visual Room we had last school year is now used as a classroom.

Hallelujah! Thank you Lord.

P.S. This is the original post I wrote for this project:

We are still accepting donations in any kind. Feel free to message me. Thank you very much!

Vision in a Cover

In March 2013, I had a principal with a strong vision for Canda National High School. Mr. Jessie V. Vasquez requested me to help put his vision in the yearbook cover. He had actually challenged me to be friends with Adobe Photoshop. That time, I was just starting to explore the program.

So it was a collaboration with the principal himself, Mark Glenn Beniten, a Fourth Year student who is a great artist, and Mr. Janlo Robil, my ever reliable friend (who is an Ateneo Professor). After the conceptualization and drawing and digital enhancement, the final product shown below was used as the cover of the yearbook.

The original sketches by Glenn:

Janlo Robil put the colors. I only finalized it with photos and other digital enhancements.

I was so happy to see the yearbook with this cover! And of course, so blissful to see that a vision was put in a cover to be seen by all.

“Pirates of the Silicon Valley”: A Short Review

“Pirates of the Silicon Valley” highlights the innovative minds of computer geniuses and artists. The film also shows that highly creative people have extreme polarisation in terms of temper and emotions. On other hand, these people make things happen no matter how hard and impossible things maybe. They are greatly motivated to succeed. And because Steve Jobs lived and Bill Gates has become so obsessed with computers, we have Apples in our hands and Windows on our lap. With twists and turns, lies and deceptions, they have succeeded in making the world go round through codes and systems. Truly amazing people with brilliant minds!

My Assumptions on Second Language Learning

As one of the final requirements in our subject ELT 501 Sociolinguistic and Psycholinguistic Foundations of Language Teaching taught by Prof. Alice Karaan at Philippine Normal University, I listed my assumptions on second language learning. So far, in my eight years of teaching, I have believed that these assumptions are true. These are also the bases of the activities and projects I designed for my classes. I wish to elaborate on these in more comprehensive posts.

My Assumptions on Second Language Learning

  1. To make students participate actively, make them aware of the goals of each learning activity. I believe that if students understand why they do such activities, they will get involved very willingly.
  2. Teachers must adjust their wait time so that students could process the input well.
  3. Language learning activities must include real-life situations to create meaningful context and the language forms and skills would be more useful to students.
  4. Teachers need to design activities like games that encourage meaningful practice of the English patterns.
  5. In testing students’ language forms and skills, teachers can use performance-based test so that students could produce outputs in a communicative way.
  6. Teachers need to understand that learners, especially beginners, rely on their knowledge of their first language for the hypotheses about how English works so errors caused by the differences between L1 and L2 would be inevitable.
  7. Teachers need to respond carefully and appropriately to grammar errors that students commit when engaged in communication to avoid fossilization of these errors.
  8. In planning and preparing activities, teachers must assure that students can show and develop their different skills and interests.
  9. Teachers must encourage students and provide them opportunities that would help them develop their learning strategies so that learning will be easier, faster and more effective.
  10. Knowing their students’ style preferences will help teachers provide the needed instructions in various forms.

iKON finally debuts!

As I looked back to my high school days at the middle of my conversation with staffers, I remembered I was hip hop in my early teens (around 13-15) wearing caps, loose t-shirts, and rubber shoes. I also danced and was part of a girl group.

During late teens, I focused on studying and working. I barely had time to enjoy until I was 26. When I loosened up, I spent more time to enjoy music, drama, theatre, dance…and then I found myself admiring KPOP groups like Bigbang and 2ne1. And then I also watched WIN and Mix ‘n Match.

iKON is now my favorite boy group. Like a teenager admiring how good their voices are and how hip hop their moves are, I am a definitely a fan. They have just debuted last night after 3-5 years of training, one major failure at WIN and member addition in Mix ‘n Match. And I just wanna congratulate iKON and YG!!! Well, it’s not a crime to admire young boys, right? Hahaha.

Maligayang kaarawan Tatay! Itagay na yan!

Star Cinema’s Starting All Over Again offers a mature ending. Yey! Buti na lang. Not a fairy tale one which is always expected by people. It is a bite of reality. The reasons why we need to bump again with people whom we had unfinished business with shall be revealed only by facing that person, yourself in the past, and the pain and joy that were there between the two of you; not to change the future to continue and start all over again, but to put closure to what has been, to choose whom you wanted yourself to be, to get in touch with your heartaches, and finally heal them by forgiving yourself and the person who inflicted so much pain in you.

Just what I did. At least I knew the answers to the questions never asked, but always bothered me. Starting all over again with my life, with a new me, with the person I wish to love for the rest of your life.
