Paalam, Kapitan Torio!

Namatay si Kapitan Torio on the spot pagkatapos mabaril.

“Baasis said Luna was shot at close range and died while being taken to a hospital.”

Senakulo 2017: The Sariaya Way

A heartfelt superb performance of Senakulo (again, for the 11th time).

The audience were silently watching and praying as Jesus Christ was tortured and nailed on the cross. I was moved. I felt the pain, not because of the pain in my feet for standing for almost four hours, but because I could only do watch the sufferings of Jesus Christ to save the people. I felt the torture because what He has died for includes me.

Congratulations Jeff Panopio Jumarang for another excellent portrayal as Jesus Christ. I am deeply moved. You are not an actor. You are Jesus Christ.

Congratulations Sir Federico Ceribo and the whole cast and production. Nakakamiss ang teatro.

Thank you Sariaya Tourism Council for continuing this “panata” and making Sariayahins see and feel the passion of Christ.

#NotoCoalPowerPlant

‘Cheesiness’ in Social Media

Some people are only affectionate in social media. In real life, they barely show ‘cheesiness’ towards the people they love. May the Holy Week remind us all that warm hugs, sweet kisses and bright smiles can lift our spirits up and can make our relationships with family and friends even closer than plain emojis posted online.

It’s Good Friday today. No ‘gala’ whatsoever for me. Let’s all have quiet time to reflect and to feel the passion of Christ.

Mga Salitang Sariayahin

My friend Nina Kristine Sabio visited here in Sariaya just this Thursday, September 4. She was my former student at Southern Luzon State University and became my best friend when she graduated in high school in 2009. When we were exchanging stories, she got really confused on the words I said like ‘malma’ and the use of ‘ga’ in my sentences like ‘Ano ba ga?’ And then I realized I have really returned to my native town after almost 9 years in Lucban. The accent of Sariayahin which was temporarily replaced by ‘bale ay’ Lucbanin accent is now back.

Then, I came across my old files and found this list I gathered together with my classmates (CrissJeson Albitos and Zanrah Leah Bautista) in July 2004 as an assignment in Filipino I. This list contains words commonly used in Sariaya, Quezon which, as we believed, are only used here in this town. I wonder now how many of these words originally used in Sariaya. Or because this list is one decade old, are all these words still used today?
