Having a house calls for a housewarming. According to dictionaries online, housewarming is a celebration of the occupancy of a new home, a party to celebrate moving into a new home, or a party to celebrate the taking possession of a house or premises. Our home in our dear alma mater, Canda National High School, is now ready to be occupied after one year. And this called for a housewarming!
Taken literally, the house needed warmth because it was cold for not being occupied for more than one year since its construction in May 2014 (roof and walls only). The second part of the construction that included finishing the walls and cementing the floor was on January 2015. Last month, July 2015, the door and the steel windows were fixed. Lastly, the electrical wirings and lightings were furnished.
The housewarming for our Alumni Office was conducted today, August 4, 2015 (Tuesday). We have prepared in advance for this event by cleaning the office and fixing the bulletin board. I have sent out the invitations to the teachers who are alumni of Canda NHS, the School-based Management Coordinator, the principal, and the key officers of Canda NHS Alumni Association.
And the day came. At 3:30 pm, all the invited people came one by one. Mr. Bryan Tolentino, the president, arrived early. Then, the teacher alumni came one by one. It seemed like a happy reunion since we were always busy in school and we rarely had chances of meeting like this.
When everyone was ready, Mr. President started the meeting by expressing his gratitude for the support extended to the construction of the Alumni Office. He also emphasized that the office would be a venue for meetings and affairs of the Alumni Association as well as a house for memorabilia regarding alumni. Lastly, he also mentioned future plans and goals for the group.
Afterwards, as the treasurer of the organization, I presented the financial statement of the organization and the construction of the Alumni Office.

The Alumni Office was a collaborative project made possible by all the support extended by the alumni of Canda NHS. This is our “home”, our Bahay-Alumni. All graduates of Canda NHS are welcome to visit and drop by the office when you visit our school. And of course, all alumni are also enjoined to help furnish our office. Based on the financial statement, there is still a big amount to settle. And as you can see in the photos, the office still needs to be painted and furnished with ceiling. Furniture like sala set, even old but still functional, may be donated. The office also needs a comfort room and a kitchen (sink, utensils, etc.) for future gatherings like this and to entertain alumni who visit our school. For this objective, the teacher alumni and officers were given envelopes for solicitations:
After the formal meeting and presentation of the financial statement, the second part of the program started, and that is “warming” our stomach with hot sopas with boiled egg. Yehey! Plus a cake that is beautifully decorated.
Now, the office is warm. Well, not literally, but in spirit, it is. Because we all care for our Bahay-Alumni.
We hope to see you all Canda NHS alumni in our “home” soon! Everyone is welcome to visit! Keep in touch for updates for the next activities and schedule of homecoming!
